Another Chance to Win...And Some Other Stuff...

First off - Let me report that I am a virus asskicking ninja! I knocked K2's virus totally OUT! Like a bitch! Okay, it was a long fight and I almost lost - especially after a very late phone call to my computer whiz brother. I followed his advice, but apparently missed something, so ended up doing things my own way and finally...at 2am...I prevailed. Whoot!!

I am ready for the Christmas Tree (the one that's been on the patio for a week) to come in the house. I hope we have time this week. We'll see. I am not entirely sure I'm ready for Christmas, but I'm trying.

The dryer is officially on the fritz. The man thinks the "reignitor" spazzed out. It starts off with a bang and then quits. Yay.

Okay, so if you entered to win Megan Hart's new book All Fall Down, and didn't get picked. Check her out at Misty Simon's blog!

Viruses Aren't Funny

So K2 has a really nasty virus on her computer. Really nasty.
Her virus protection didn't catch it. Still hasn't. I downloaded the program I'd told her to download when she got the computer, and thought we had it...
That was about seven hours ago...
I'm still working on it. She has work tomorrow and all of her lesson plans are on the computer...to say she's freaking out a little would be an understatement. Or she was. She's since calmed some and has resigned herself to the possibility of a system wipe.
Though I will say, we actually spent money on a program that had immediately detected the problems when we ran the free trail. After we paid, it removed one. I've emailed them, and we're going to get her money back or you'll hear a lot of screaming going on from here. I am totally kicked myself for taking the easy, but expensive, fix.
I hate to say it, but I *think* I've got it now. Nasty bugger. I downloaded the free anti-virus that I use and immediately upon installation it had quarantined and deleted it. Yeah, we're definitely getting our money back. Now I'm running another Anti-spyware program to make sure. It's taking forever, but the popups we were getting immediately upon log in haven't shown up.
We'll see...
Stupid people making stupid nasty viruses! Seriously!

A New Month

Wow. It's November already.
(I've been remiss in my wow-ness over new months lately. Just because I haven't posted it, doesn't mean I don't feel it. ha!)
Is it just me, or has this year gone by with amazing speed?
I'm stunned than Thanksgiving is a little over three weeks away. That Christmas is just seven weeks away. I'm not ready. Not at all. I'm also not ready for K2 to turn 18! 18!! Holy cow!
Unless you live in a box in some polar region you've noticed the Christmas decorations that are already on display. Not ready for that either. I can't even begin to think about the holidays yet. Though I sincerely hope I enter the season without the scrooge mentality. I don't want to this year, though I can feel it in the back of my brain already.
*****
So, I'm still sick. Not the swine flu, just a head cold. No real fever, just snot and lots of it. (You're welcome, because yes, you did need to know that! Ha!) We'll see if it affects anyone else in the house, despite my warfare against spreading the germs. We're at two of six right now.
Instead of the fun mother-daughter weekend that was planned, we've had to alter plans slightly to accommodate my aching head. Of course, the fact that the theater was only playing horror movies yesterday had some impact on that as well. But we ate out, went to the bookstore, rented movies, and ate Ben & Jerry's from our own individual containers, and talked (which made the weekend a success, in my opinion).
And I think that's all I have for this November 1st.

Monday Madness

I know I quit doing Moaning Monday, but we're going to go there today. Yes. We are.
Here's the Moaning list:
1. The flu - it's here. One kid home from school today. One kid with the cough. And I don't even want to talk about how my throat feels.
2. Putting off going to the grocery store. I should have/could have gone over the weekend, but didn't. Now I have to venture out in the freezing cold and wind. And I have to, because there is no food in my house.
3. Stupid snow. We've been so cheated this year. So cheated. I wanted more than a dusting, or an inch. Forget it now. I'm done with you snow! Do you hear me?
4. Not being able to take a nap even though I was up all night with a sick kid. What the heck is up with that? Every single time I closed my eyes, something happened - she coughed, the phone rang, the dog barked, you get the picture.
On the other hand....
Yay for meeting my monthly writing goal. And for being on my last load of laundry, and for a lot of stuff that nearly makes up for the moaning list.
That is all.

Doing Stuff...

So last night we went to a hockey game.
My sister's boss gave her tickets and our seats were right on the ice near the goal. It was a great place to sit. We got to see lots of players smashing up against the glass. And pucks. Twice the puck came into the audience. It hit a lady the first time and broke her glasses. The second time some guy caught it before it would have smashed into his date's face. Exciting stuff. I don't normally follow hockey. I think it's impossible to watch on television. Being at a game is totally different - you're a fan and that's all there is to it.
There were many fights, including a pretty big one at the very end of the game. I thought the last one went a little too far and don't know why the refs let it go for so long. I'm not even sure what started it, but then I'm not sure what started any of the fights. I'm not sure why they break up some and let others go.
It was good to get out with other adults and be silly. We had a blast.
Then came home to a sick kid. Running a fever and coughing up a storm. Looks like a trip to the doctor is in the forecast. Her ear hurts, too. Poor baby. Today's going to be a low key, chicken soup kind of day. It snowed a little last night - not enough to get excited about, but enough to kick in my hermit-ness. And, The Lord of the Rings is on tv. That's a beautiful thing.

Figures...

Today would have been a perfect Moaning Monday!
My laptop is infected. Horribly infected. I've spent all day trying to get rid of the little buggers. Thanks to a household administration phone call and getting lucky enough to talk to Carlos, I was able to begin to get a handle on the problem. (Thanks, Carlos! Don't forget to email me!) Simon's other half gave me additional guidance, and I think (pray, hope, oh please!) I'm finally making progress. I downloaded a spybot program and the first time it ran, it came up with not only the 3 infections my regular virus protection found, but 12 more (nasty ones, too), and an additional 14 potential risks. I was able to heal all but one, and am now in the process of running the scan again after following the recommendations. Keep your fingers crossed.
So, I've managed zero editing today. Zero. That's not helping the throbbing in my head, I'll tell you that much. See what I mean? Today would have been the perfect Moaning Monday, but since I've quit doing those posts (ha ha)... Yeah, I know, but this was newsworthy, in my opinion. A lesson, if you will. Don't let this happen to you!
Tall Tale Tuesday returns tomorrow! I know you're all very excited! ha! And, depending on how the editing goes, I might post more of my random notes later tomorrow. We'll see.
Hey! Do me a favor and make sure you're backing up your writing files and keeping your protection service up to date. This is a nightmare you don't want to deal with.
