Oh Geeze! It's Almost Friday!

What's up with that?
Last I looked it was only Sunday! We've had "stuff" every single night this week....stuff like:
My granddaughter's 1st birthday! She's one! She's walking and she has a few teeth. And she's a very funny baby!
We ran over to see her last night and have a little cake. She was a riot! Instead of picking up her cake, she just stuck her face in it. Her "official" party is this weekend and I am still mostly stumped on what to get her.
We've also been helping K5's mom find a new car. That's been lots of evenings spent at car lots and carrying K5 around so she could see herself in mirrors.
Oh, and let's not forget the dentist! I broke my temporary crown a few weeks ago. I got my tooth fixed and am once again the owner of a temporary crown because the dentist said it's not worth putting a "real" crown on that tooth. That kind of freaks me out. I'm not sure I want to know what the next step is. I'm just happy to be able to eat right again. Or you know...until I break this one!
What else?
We won't talk about how busy work has been for me and that man I live with. Or the various kid activities going on. Or the five bazillion water balloons I filled for scouts. Or the fact that, yet again, my washing machine is acting up. And the house computer. Or the leg cramp that woke me up twenty minutes before my alarm when off this morning.
Long weekend coming up! That's what I'm focusing on!

Stink Bugs....

I've gotten a lot of traffic around here lately on the subject of stink bugs...
The truth is...I haven't seen a single one in weeks, except dead ones.
Not a single one.
And that is very weird.
I don't know what happened to them, but I can't say I'm sad about it. I do live in fear though. Fear that they'll come back with a vengeance (wait for it!).

What Was Good About Today...

Similar to Feel Good Friday, but not...Because it's Saturday and B was off work, which is unusual...
1. Hedges getting trimmed.
2. Two of the four chickens going to their new home with my sister who is so happy to have them.
3. Getting to hold my brand new great niece.
4. Hanging out with my brother and sisters at the 'rents house. We all had to leave far too early, but it was a very good time, with good food and a lot of laughter - like usual.
5. Grocery shopping = done.
6. Bills = paid.
7. Saving $35.00 on gas.
8. K3 getting to hang out with his best friend.
9. K4 being registered for summer camp. She is so excited!
10. Sleeping in until 9 am. Sweet.
And one more...
11. The cooler temps! It's gorgeous outside!
Oh, and here's my only complaint...
I really, really, really wish I could go to RWA National!! It starts next week and I am dying! I'd planned to go this year, but it couldn't happen...I am super bummed!!
That is all...

Feel Good Friday

Well, hello, Friday! And yeah, I know it's been Friday for hours. In fact, Friday will be over soon, but since I just sat down...
Here's the list:
1. My little (ha! I know they're not little, but indulge me!) K's being home again! Yay. All is right in my world at this moment.
2. Making a really good dinner the other night (just for B and I, too!), even though the noodles (cellophane) looked like jellyfish. And! It was the only night I cooked this week!
3. Fun times at the Scout closing ceremony.
4. My kid coming home a lot more mature than when he left for camp, in more ways than one. It was a great week for him, despite the last minute prep and craziness of the whole thing. His group was amazing and I'm so glad he went.
5. K4 having a fun week with her cousin, her friend, and her grandparents.
6. Sleeping in a little tomorrow.
7. Looking forward to hanging with the 'rents and sibs tomorrow.
8. Grandbaby on Sunday.
9. Seeing how crazy the dog got when she realized her boy was home.
10. Listening to the K's sing together on the way home.
That is all for now!

What a Long Week...

This week has been really really long.
It started, actually, on Saturday afternoon when I got a call that the scout training camp we'd signed K3 up for months ago had a cancellation and did he want to go...Of course, he wanted to go. Then we found out he had to be there in less than 24 hours. For a week. And he was already away on a scout trip. So we hustled and gathered supplies and made lists and ran to the mega mart at odd hours for stuff and did laundry well into the night.
And it was the fast and furious phone calls to find child care arrangements for K4 since she is not able to stay home alone yet. Which did work out, but also meant that she spent many nights away from home. Like all but one... But she's had a blast hanging out with family and friends.
K2 called from camp to say she has/had the stomach flu and was miserable.
I popped the temporary crown off my tooth tonight, which feels odd. I don't like it.
So, it's been a weird week. I've missed my baby chicks a lot, though B and I have enjoyed having the house to ourselves. I'm ready for it to be over. And it will tomorrow.
And tomorrow is Friday! Yay! The beginning of yet another busy weekend that includes the grandbaby, birthday parties x 2, errand running, and, of course, sleeping in...I hope.

What I Want...

1. Balance. Though I don't think that ever truly happens long term. Sometimes you hit your sweet spot, but most of the time it's precarious
2. Automatic laundry.
3. This book to be done. (Yes, I'm working on it.)
4. The beach.
5. One thousand acres so I can live in the middle and be a proper hermit. Or you know, mostly a hermit.
6. A decent night's sleep.
7. Chocolate.
8. Movie night.
9. A bicycle. (mine is broken)
...I don't know. I'm beyond tired and more silly than not...

Feel Good Friday...

Holy Mother of Bad Days...
Today was truly a crappy one! Truly crappy! It started with finding the kitchen trash all over the floor - compliments of the dog. It got worse from there...I won't go into the gory details, but trust me, it was not pretty. At all. I will tell you the last straw. The cat puked in my bed...Which is why, in my mind, it's still Friday, even though it's after midnight. (I'm waiting for the dryer to finish my sheets...and blankets...and my favorite pillow...grrr...)
So, with a day like I had, it's important to recognize the good things from the week...
I'm going to try.
1. Friday - though, I could have done without this particular Friday. At least the week is over.
2. Sleeping in tomorrow.
3. Having my lunch packed for me every day this week, compliments of that wonderful man I live with.
4. Getting some writing time in, though it wasn't nearly as much as I wanted.
5. The sleeping in happening on clean sheets.
6. Cool movies with K4.
7. Supernatural reruns. Man, I miss those boys.
8. Weekend plans with the family and the granddaughter.
9. New great nieces - no details yet since she was only born a little while ago.
10. Getting to talk to K2. She still has no voice and is beyond exhausted, but it was good to talk to her. I miss that kid.
And, look at that. I made it to 10.
Okay. I think the dryer just buzzed.

Back...Again

Don't get too excited. There's no telling how long it'll last! lol
Today has been another day where there's no enough time - one load of laundry done (not even by me), no emails caught up, no phone calls returned, no household administration duties accomplished...
Shoes are off now. Finally. Thank goodness.
So, the annual pain in the butt streetfair was today. It was a weird year. Rainy and cooler than normal, which would have been nice if I actually enjoyed going. Normally we have company. This year we didn't - no drop ins, no last minute arrangements. I'm a little sad...
Anyway.
Tomorrow is Friday! Woo Hoo!

More Slacking...

Sorry...
I'm kind of tired of turning around once and finding out that the week is half over!
All week I thought it was Wednesday and now that it really is, I think it's Monday. Yes. That's what kind of week it's been.
Things I have done this week:
1. Gone to dinner with the girls. (in a scary redneck town)
2. Hung out with different girls in the newly remodeled/fire restored house. (they owe me one. That's all I'm saying.)
3. Powerwashed the patio. Pulled weeds. Cleaned the backporch. Cleaned the house. (sorta)
4. Dealt with a sick kid.
5. Listen to chickens make far too much noise.
6. Write - not as much as I would like, but some is better than none.
Things yet to do this week:
1. Avoid going to the street fair tomorrow.
2. Make a real grocery list and follow it.
3. More chicken listening.
4. Live until Friday.
5. Figure out what to take to Family Dinner this weekend, besides the grandbaby.
6. Write more.
...and that is all.
My bed is calling me!

Stealing Saturday...

It's been a really long time since we've all been home on a Saturday. (Well, most of us...)
But today...Yes!
And, to be honest, we haven't done too much. Grocery shopping, plant watering, can crushing, kitchen cleaning...oh, and we made a fantastic dinner. B did some yardwork for an elderly neighbor. But other than that we've just been taking it easy.
It's been wonderful.
Now we're catching up on all of the Dr. Who we've missed before the new episode tonight. I'm writing and seriously thinking about making myself an adult beverage.
I hope your Saturday has been a nice one as well!

Feel Good Friday

(Sorry. Trying to catch up. I know I've been a slacker this week.)
So, here's the list for this hot Friday.
1. Friday! Obviously.
2. Pizza for dinner.
3. Summer vacation for the kids because it means I don't have to deal with grumpy kids in the morning or harp on them to do their homework.
4. Sleeping in tomorrow. In air conditioning.
5. Making it through this very long and disastrous week.
6. Soda with ice.
7. The cables that were knocked down with the storm being put back up.
8. K2's 11pm phone calls.
9. Getting texts from B with warming instructions for my lunch. Hysterical.
10. Being barefoot.
So there you have it!

Where Have the Stinkbugs gone?

Okay, so they're not gone completely, but the biblical plague I was told to expect did not happen.
For that, I am grateful.
I still see a few every once in a while, but the scourge I thought I would be dealing with is not in my house. Is it in yours?
I wonder if its because they're supposed to hibernate for 6 or 8 months or something. That's kind of scary, because what if, when they come out of hibernation, it's worse than a biblical plague? Maybe they just died off? I don't know.
Now, though, I am dealing with piss ants. I don't know if that's what they're really called. They're the little ones and they're everywhere. I can't find where they're getting in. I am sick of them. I even found one on my arm while I was in bed the other night, which prompted B and I to get out of bed, turn the light on, and pull the covers back to make sure the bed wasn't infested. They're irritating, though if they were stink bugs I would be insane by now.
I'm just sayin'
That is all.

Moving On...

We're moving on around here...
Moving out of elementary school for good and going to middle school.
Moving out of middle school and going to high school.
This will be the first time in 17 years that we have not had a child in elementary school. Wow.
Tonight was 8th grade "graduation" - only they don't call it that.
It was everything a "graduation" should be - long, with unnecessary speaking, hooting and hollering from the crowd, and a huge crowd.
I almost cried.
And I feel very old...

Summer is about to start around here and I will mourn it.
I have traded no shoes and sleeping in for a work schedule and a steady paycheck.
I'm not adjusting well...

I'm sure I'll whine more about that later...

The Weekend & Chickens...

I don't know what it is with my family and chickens. I think they're all nuts, especially when they offer refuge to random roosters.
This guy stayed over Friday night before going to his new home. He was very pretty, but very talkative, and loud - especially at 6:15 am. That was when he started crowing and he didn't stop all morning. All morning. On my sleeping in day...
He went to his new home Saturday afternoon and all was quiet in my house again...well, not really. The four chicks we are raising are still here - cheeping and stinking up the place. Those birds are always hungry. They're cute and it's cool for the kids to take care of them, but I'm ready for them to be ready to go to their new home, too.
The rest of the weekend...pretty good. Chapter meeting Saturday was fantastic as usual. Then hanging with the bff - which was fun and like old times, including me feeding her fish for dinner (no greenbeans though). Today was running around, homework, writing, and our niece's graduation party.
And...tomorrow is Monday again. I'm not ready. I need one more day in the weekend. Please?
School is out this week. I'm not ready for that either.
...and that is all.

Here's the list:
1. A short week - though it really felt like a long week!
2. Cooler temperatures.
3. My RWA Chapter meeting today!
4. Eating dinner with my family.
5. Weekend plans.
6. Sleeping in a little this morning - even though the rooster crowed at 6:15 am. (more on that later)
7. Not running out of gas because I was too rushed to stop and fill up.
8. The rose my husband packed in my lunch.
9. Speaking of that...having my lunch packed for me and the coffee made.
10. My granddaughter and her squinty face.
That's all for now.
More on number 6 later...

Things...

I am looking forward to this summer....
1. No homework to supervise, check, or hound over.
2. No more checks for school lunches. Checks that are usually written quickly while parked on the side of the road because everyone forgot to tell me when I had the checkbook out while I was on the bank's website.
3. Road trips. Hopefully to visit a friend who doesn't live too far away.
4. Random pool time.
5. Camping.
6. Grilled dinners.
7. Camping with the Boy Scouts at the beach.
8. Summer camp for the kids - not because I want them to be gone, but because they're so excited about going.
9. Iced coffee. Already getting started on that. There's a pitcher already made...waiting for me.
10. Random fires and hanging out.
That's enough of a list for now. We won't talk about what I'm not looking forward to right now.
That is all...
