I had no idea until I saw posts on Facebook. I still didn't know when and then I found out it was supposed to be today.
Well....
So far none of my neighbors have turned into zombies. It seems life is going on as usual around here. I even checked the gnomes and they're as obnoxious as usual with no signs of turning into evil (more evil) creatures. Maybe it's just not time yet?
The suggestion that the world is ending and the zombie apocalypse is starting fills my head with ideas...Such as:
Do animals turn into zombies? If a bear ate a zombie, would the bear become a zombie bear?
Where would you seek refuge from your zombie neighbors?
Would you loot to get the things you need to survive, or would you already have them?
What kind of role would you have in the new world? Would you hide and cry, or would you form a zombie response posse and try to find a way to end it?
Money would mean nothing. How would you get the things you need, especially after the looting is finished and there's nothing left?
...oh there's more, but I'm not going to get anything done today if I keep going. Before I go, let's discuss the essential zombie apocalypse survival kit.
Here's what mine would have:
Weapons - a lot of weapons and ammo.
Toilet paper
A massive first aid kit.
Water.
Canned goods and other food items.
Extra fuel, with fuel stabilizer so it doesn't go bad.
A generator.
Walkie Talkies and/or a CB radio
Bleach
Liquor - lots of it since it would be useful for trade as well as have a wide variety of uses.
I know I'm missing stuff. So tell me what would be in your survival kit? What would you add? What do you need to survive?
Behave!

What If...
I'm doing research on my next book and my head is filled with "What If's" today. The book is going to be about zombies, but that's all I know right now. I had to take a break from my research because it's creeping me out a little. I need to filter the information I've already learned and figure out how to put my own twist on zombie lore. So I'm thinking...
And since my brain is in that mode, I will share them with you...
Things to ponder...
1. What if you were given a significant amount of money? Money that would solve all of your financial problems and ensure you would live a comfortable, easy life. But what if that gift came with stipulations that meant pain for your family and friends? Pain they would never know was a result of your gain. Would you still take the money even though your friends would never know their problems were related to your good fortune? Could you live with yourself?
2. What if you woke up one morning and were the only person around? Anywhere? Everyone is just gone. What would you do? Would you cry? Jump up and down with glee over the freedom?
3. What if there was a disaster in your hometown and your home was the only safe place left? What if you only had enough provisions for your family, but now people are knocking on your door seeking shelter and food? Would you let them in or turn them away? What if you knew that by helping them, everyone was sure to die? And then, what if you made the decision to not help and have to watch your neighbors and friends die from your safe windows?
4. What if you had to make a choice between saving your children or your parents? Your children or your spouse? What if you knew you could help so many more people if you didn't save your family? What would you do?
5. What if you knew exactly when the people around you would die? Would you tell them? Talk them out of the decisions that could lead to their death? Would you want anyone to know you knew?
6. What if you found out something huge that would have global impact on the world? I don't know how you found out, by accident for sure, maybe your toddler hit some weird kids on the computer and you ended up with a document that spelled out some sinister plan. What would you do? Who would believe you? And could you be silenced either by threat or pay off?
So there you have it. No, I don't expect you to answer the questions. I'm not sure anyone could answer them without facing the situations. These are the kind of questions that get my brain in gear for writing, even if they don't directly relate to the story I'm thinking about.
And I think I've overcome my momentary blank spot...
Feel Good Friday soon...after I get some of this stuff in my head written down.

The Things I do...

Took the dog for a bath and trim today. My groomer is my brother-in-law's sister and she lives about a quarter of a mile away from my sister, which means, she lives at the meadow.
I dropped the dog off and took a walk. To the meadow. The walk there was easy...downhill. A ton of rain has made our summer haven a swamp. I trekked my way through, enjoying the peace and quiet and being all by myself. (trying to think about my next project and wishing I had a heavier coat and trying to avoid the mud and standing water) Obviously, it's uphill going back. I made it without dying.
As I got to the top of the hill, I turned off onto the cliff ledge. It's high. I'm not sure how high, but it pretty much drops off into absolute nothingness. Until, of course, you hit the rocks and water below. I stood there for a while, again enjoying the quiet and the view and tried not to let the wind push me off. (It's really, really windy here) As I stood there, I realized there was rushing water nearby. Not the creek, it's too far down to hear. So, I went in search of it. Through scrub pines, over rocks, carefully watching my step. I found the start of the waterfall, but wasn't satisfied with that, not when most of the noise was coming from below.
(This is where, if you know me, you'll be amazed at the fact that I actually listened to the little voice of safety.)
I wanted to see. (I still want to see!) I picked out a path, paying attention to the obstacles I'd face on my return trip. But every time I took a step, the voice of reason screamed I was making a mistake. I brushed it off and found another rock to step on, and the voice came back. (No, not a real voice. I'm not that crazy. Maybe I should call it the knowledge that I was about to make a big mistake.) Since we've had so much rain lately, the ground isn't exactly stable, especially around rocks and trees on a cliffside. I was slipping a lot. I realized I was about to be in a serious predicament. Alone. With only my cell phone and the signals not always there. No one was home at my sisters or her in laws. The groomer wouldn't hear me yell or call because she was busy with the noises of dog washing, trimming, and blow-drying.
So, I had to settle for this picture. Taken on my cell phone while holding onto a sapling and leaning out as far as I could. The falls are somewhere below that stick. If someone else would have been with me, I would have gone for sure.
I guess it's a crisis averted, but I still want to see that waterfall.
My dog is now clean and trimmed. I swear we could have knitted a king-sized comforter, pillow shams, and a couple of sweaters out of the dog hair left behind. No. I'm not kidding. When I stepped back into the shop it looked like the dog had exploded.
That's all I have for you right now!
New Supernatural tonight! I can't wait!

More Intrigued

Unfortunately, this picture is no better than the last one I posted of this old, cool-as-hell place. I'm still searching for information on it, and still coming up empty handed. I think I might have to ask the owners about the history and if I can take some closer shots, maybe get a peek inside. I'll let you know how I make out. I need to know more.
Okay, can I just say...tomorrow is December 1st? Yeah, I can since this is my blog. Ha. That's all I'm going to say though. I think I say the same thing every month, so just expand what I normally say by like a thousand and you'll get how I'm feeling about it being December already. So totally not ready for the hysteria of the holidays. I think I have hives over it!
Short and sweet today!

Intrigued

No Moaning Monday post. There's so much moaning, I wouldn't even know where to start. We won't even go there.
Instead, we're going to talk about this picture. B and I drove by this old building the other day, and again over the weekend. We tried to find a way to get closer, but apparently, it's on private property. I made him slow down so I could take this picture, but it seriously doesn't do it justice.
There's just something about this building. It's three stories high, brick, and ages old. I've spent a lot of time researching it, to no avail. I can't find any information. Though from the bridge remnants around it, and the evidence of an old road, this was maybe a hotel, or an old trading post, or someplace significant to the area.
I want to know so badly. I keep thinking about it. I can imagine it in it's heyday.
Maybe it's just my interest in old buildings, but the lack of knowledge is driving me nuts.
