Okay. The lies...
Natalie got the year right. The pilgrims landed in December of 1620 so there was no way her mother had been dead for 2 years after the long boat ride.
A brief thought on the productive farming...farms may not have been as productive as they eventually were, but they were harvesting corn thanks to the Wampanoag. This one is a gray area, though I didn't intend it as the second lie.
The second lie:
Cranberries.
They didn't eat cranberries at that first feast. They didn't have pumpkin pie either. Sad. I know. When did cranberries become part of Thanksgiving? I have no idea. I didn't get that far in my research.
So there you have it.
Tune in next week for more Tall Tale Tuesday. I have no idea what it'll be yet.
Behave!

HA. You are WRONG.

I figured cranberries had to be the second lie, but my research definitely said they were present at the first Thanksgiving:

About the fourth paragraph, I think.

I accept your apology.

Well...
They were available, but every research site I visited said they weren't on the table. They had no sugar to do anything with them.

I don't know. I guess no one really does for sure.

This is one of those time where a time machine would come in handy! I'd love to go back and check it out for myself!

Dang...I get no word verification on my own blog!

The first two sites said no cranberry sauce, not no cranberries. \o/

But the third one says no cranberries. It also says the ONLY thing we know they had was deer, so EVERYTHING else is speculative.

I was going to say my source is a university textbook, but your third source is a university, too. Does UCLA trump George Mason? *scratches head*

Anyway. We'll put it on the list of Very Important Things to Find Out When Someone Invents a Time Machine. :)

Idk. All I can think of is how nasty cranberries are without being sweetened. Though, they might have had ways to make them more palatable. Interesting...

Everything IS speculative. Hmm...

I guess we won't know until that time machine comes along. I've definitely had my fill of pilgrim research, though I find it all really, really interesting!

Upside...we've both expanded our minds a little.

Downside...the time we spent when we could have been doing what we're supposed to be doing! LOL

Yeah, well, research is never wasted time. It will help keep us clear and clever in our old age, right? :)
